Rachel Hayden
Rachel Hayden is a Brooklyn-based artist from Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from MICA in 2015 with a BFA in Fine Arts. After graduating she worked in early childhood education at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, creating and teaching programs for children birth to five. Her paintings include anthropomorphized moths, butterflies, fruits, flowers and moons, tender hands, and detached self-portraits. Rachel’s paintings revel in an introvert’s sardonic pleasure found in solitude and extrapolate it into a cast of inanimate object-characters that serve as companion or voyeur.
AR Collaboration
“Metamorph”
In collaboration with Brooklyn-based painter Rachel Hayden, we created Metamorph — an Augmented Reality interpretation of her canvases filled with “prized possessions, somewhere between souvenirs and icons.” Recent paintings of Rachel’s include imagery of moths, and she shares, “Visually, I appreciate the natural symmetry of a moth. I like imagining the moth in perfect solitude inside its cocoon, quietly transforming, awaiting a dramatic entrance.”
