Erik Foss
Erik Foss mines pop culture to create his layered works. His paintings and collages incorporate images that spur the viewer’s nostalgia or their melancholia, but in ways that contort the memories they evoke and thus the reception of his works. Erik’s works ask us to examine the uncomfortable underbelly of popular culture and consumerism. Erik has had solo exhibitions at Castor Gallery, NY; Gallery 3, San Francisco; and Gallery Steinsland Berliner, Stockholm. His work has also been included in exhibitions at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art; Christies, NY; and the Watermill Foundation, NY.

Artist Talk
“We artists are just walking filters.”
On Halloween of 1996, Erik Foss moved to New York to pursue life as an artist and never looked back. In a recent studio visit + conversation with Erik about our recent collaborations, we discovered the pivotal moments + stories that have continually shaped his art + vision.
Sculpture collaboration
“Everyday is Halloween”
Imagined in collaboration with New York artist Erik Foss, “Everyday is Halloween” gives form to a collision of iconography that has been with the artist since youth. Based on recent drawings and airbrushed paintings of neon snakes and smiley figures, the cartoon-like sculpture takes its name from a song by Ministry Erik used to DJ endlessly - as a means to work as an artist.
